an elevated measure of prayer is a place of worship. it replicates the devotional logic of political internet culture. where the meme is the prayer, repetition is ritual, and the rabbit hole is an act of faith. the work operates through a language native to the internet, where meaning is never stated but recognized. political figures have been so thoroughly memeified that their images function as icons, their circulation as scripture. the installation does not observe this from a distance. it reproduces it. the deeper you go, the more total the devotion becomes, until engagement is indistinguishable from belief. to reject a false god you must first submit to it. in that submission, the nature of the prayer remains the same.

love letter to my home

Two years ago, I left the US, unsure if I ever wanted to come back.

Across generations, we’ve picked sides against each other. We live in echo chambers designed to deepen rifts between neighbors, church members, friends, and families across the country.

Our government isn’t supposed to be this way. We aren’t meant to exile our neighbors over the same stupid topics the news keeps pushing in our faces.

We’re supposed to work together, stay kind, and unite our communities to be the change we want to see. Talk to each other. Talk to someone different than you. Facebook arguments don’t help anybody — approach conversations with nuance, and listen to one another. To heal our communities, we need grace, and we need to let nuance show us how similar we really are.

Everything doesn’t have to be perfect. But we have to find a middle ground to move forward.

The job facing American voters… in the days and years to come is to determine which hearts, minds and souls command those qualities best suited to unify a country rather than further divide it, to heal the wounds of a nation as opposed to aggravate its injuries, and to secure for the next generation a legacy of choices based on informed awareness rather than one of reactions based on unknowing fear.
