AMBER
Being aware of one's life, one's revolt, one's freedom, and to the maximum, is living, and to the maximum. Where lucidity dominates, the scale of values becomes useless.
– Albert Camus
As I embrace the finite nature of my existence, I find a deeper appreciation for the life that envelops me. It is in accepting our finitude that we truly learn to cherish the moments we have. Albert Camus proposes that everything begins with consciousness, and nothing is worth anything except through it. It is in this belief that I have reflected on my life and realized that by questioning and actively choosing my values, I can become free from the constraints of societal expectations and embrace the absurdity that I create. My work seeks to disrupt conceptions of normal and reveal beauty in human existence through satire and absurdity.
Every aspect of life is touched by loss, an inherently transformative, unavoidable experience. AMBER does not seek to escape loss; instead, it reflects on how we react to it. There is no correct way to cope with loss, but in the act of self-preservation, I chose to find beauty in the transformation that accompanies loss.
The most common appearance of loss in my life is socks. It feels comical to mourn the loss of something so trivial. Therein lies my point of contemplation. I am mourning my socks because I am affected by their loss daily, and who is to say that loss is not profound?
