Mack Hurd (b. 2002) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Birmingham, Alabama, specializing in sculpture, video, installation, textiles, and painting. She uses humor and world-building to explore the human condition and highlight its underlying absurdities.
Hurd's work focuses on themes such as grief, belief, identity, and politics, asking how we cope with experiences that defy explanation. Instead of searching for clear answers, she encourages laughter as a means of understanding. Her research includes loss, transformation, fashion, performance, media literacy, and propaganda aesthetics. Rather than critiquing subjects from afar, she invites engagement by creating spaces that elicit personal reflection.
Hurd earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) from Birmingham-Southern College in 2024 and is a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) Candidate at Goldsmiths, University of London. Now back in Birmingham, she continues to investigate what it means to fully believe in something—whether it be a place, a punchline, or a country.
